The postulate
The postulancy: doing the Father’s will
This term refers to the “official” entry into a friary. The young man lives in a community with the friars and other postulants. He begins to live more closely with the friars to learn the Franciscan way of life. This is a one-year period, a time conducive to experiencing the presence of God and the friars. The Franciscan way of life is characterized by:
Common and personal prayer,
Fraternal life,
Service to God and others,
Experiences of self-giving,
A simple life.
During the postulancy, a brother formator accompanies the candidates to discern what is good and right for the postulant and for the fraternity. The postulancy period is oriented toward “doing the Father’s will” (cf. Jn 4:34).
