The postulate
The postulate: doing the Father's will
This word refers to the "official" entry into a monastery. The young person lives in a fraternity with brothers and other postulants. He begins to live more closely with the brothers in order to learn the Franciscan way of life. This is a period of one year, a time conducive to experiencing the presence of God and the brothers. The Franciscan lifestyle is characterized by:
Communal and personal prayer,
Fraternal life,
Service to God and others,
Experiences of self-giving,
A simple life.
During the postulancy, a brother formator accompanies the candidates to discern what is good and right for the postulant and for the fraternity. The postulancy period is oriented toward "doing the Father's will" (cf. Jn 4:34).
